“I’ve found the most challenging and rewarding process in learning how to be in relationship with horses is knowing who we are and how we want to present ourselves to our horses. There’s so much out there that speaks of leadership, but what does it really mean to be a leader for our horses? How do we want to be perceived by our equine partners? Horses don’t worry about what we wear or how we look. They don’t really concern themselves with “proper techniques and/or processes”... they seem mostly to care about how we are more than what we do. Our horses resonate with our energy, our feelings and sense our internal state. To lead a horse well then, we need to develop a sense of who we are. To know ourselves and to consistently choose how we desire to be felt by equine partners is key to helping our horses feel heard and understood.”
“Feel is something inherent in all of us. We all have it! Feel is knowingness and intuition, it tells us how a person is doing before we’ve asked them the question. It’s the awkward experience of standing too close to someone in an elevator. It’s the ability to “read” the room. We’ve spent so much time shutting ourselves off from our intuition; not trusting ourselves and not believing in our capabilities. The horses draw this gift out of us again. They give us the opportunity to feel the space around us. They need us to feel so they can share with us their insights. They are non-verbal communicators, but when we trust our feel and believe in our intuition, they speak so clearly and have so much wisdom to share.”
