SHOWING UP FOR OUR HORSES

Authentically. Wholeheartedly.

Brooke started riding horses from an early age, riding in the hunter/jumpers both recreationally and competitively until she was 16. She left the competition ring because she wasn’t feeling fulfilled. She had a great coach but felt that something was missing. Years later, Brooke got back into horses when she bought her first Friesian and aspired to enter the dressage world.

This was how she met Relational Horsemanship founder and clinician, Josh Nichol. Relational Horsemanship is a principle based style that focuses on meeting the horse’s needs by building trust, emotional attunement, and empowerment. It also prioritizes the understanding of our horse’s biomechanics and balance so that horse and human can work together in harmony.

She recalls in that first clinic with Josh;

“He said, ‘Your horse will only ever be as soft as you are.’ that one statement overthrew everything I’d been brought up to believe was right and acceptable with horse and human interactions, and it began the unraveling of my whole life over the next few years.”

She began apprenticing with Josh in 2011 and continues to develop her horsemanship under his instruction. Brooke’s passion is mentoring people to develop a level of awareness of themselves and how to best meet their horse’s needs. Her work is influenced by the classical schools of horsemanship with an emphasis on creating a balanced horse and rider, working with the horse’s physiology to empower them to perform to their best potential!

Understanding ourselves, our tendencies and how our energy is being felt allows us to be present with our horses wherever they are and helps us see clearly what they’re trying to communicate.  Mentoring people through this process is Brooke’s passion.  Helping people work through their tendencies and perspectives while creating a new understanding of how to work with our nervous systems is a primary focus.

Helping people understand themselves, their limiting beliefs and the habits that are preventing them from leading the lives they desire has become a passion for Brooke.

“The evolution of developing a deeper awareness in myself, has led me to a deeper sense of purpose when it comes to walking with people on their journey. It was the horses that started the process for me. I needed to know why we have the thoughts we have and develop a set of skills to work through the unhelpful thoughts and feelings we encounter along the way. This desire led me to many different workshops and then finally to life coaching. The skills learned through the life coaching certification process deepened my understanding of why we get stuck along with how to help ourselves through the process of creating new ways of thinking.”

LET’S EXPLORE

“I’ve found the most challenging and rewarding process in learning how to be in relationship with horses is knowing who we are and how we want to present ourselves to our horses. There’s so much out there that speaks of leadership, but what does it really mean to be a leader for our horses? Horses don’t worry about what we wear or how we look. They don’t really concern themselves with proper techniques and/or processes, they seem mostly to care about how we are more than what we do.”
